Here is my interview with her:What are your hobbies?
Running, dancing, drawing, reading, cooking, and going out with friends.
Your new book Before I Fall is about relationships and the ups and downs in them. What do you consider necessary for a good relationship?
You must absolutely respect the other person, and treat him or her with respect. I think that applies to all relationships, whether romantic, familial, or platonic. I think you need to be able to be quiet together, to generate intimacy without feeling like you need to smush together your identities. I think one of the greatest gifts you can give somebody else—and one of the most intimate and brave things you can do—is to allow him or her to be different from yourself, and to love that and value it.
What is a typical Saturday like for you?
Hmm. Saturdays look very much like every other day for me, except that I usually sleep a little later! But I run or take a yoga class, and drink lots of coffee, and do some work, and answer some emails (though fewer than on regular days). On Saturday nights I usually do something low-key with my friends in Brooklyn, or stay in. Saturdays are a notoriously bad time to go out in Manhattan—too chaotic!
What were your favorite books as a Teen?
I loved Jane Austen when I was thirteen and fourteen. When I was a senior in high school the Harry Potter books were just coming out and I, along with every other person in the known universe, fell in love with them. Sadly, I don’t really remember loving any other books, probably because I was too busy crushing on unsuitable boys, stressing about my SAT scores, and trying to get into college.
I hear you love cooking. What is your favorite thing to cook?
Anything my friends will eat! No, it depends. I go through phases. I love making roasts and braised meats in the winter; when I went to Mexico for a friend’s birthday, I grilled fish and made ceviche and fresh salsas. So it just depends on what is fresh and what’s available.
How does it feel to be done with your first book?
Like a relief!
What are five of your favorite things?
1. Big clean kitchens with lots of copper pots, and the smell of something cooking on the stove 2. Woodfires; a big chair; rain outside; a book
3. Autumn in New York
4. Farmers markets
5. Getting really hot, and then jumping in a pool
6. Being kissed by someone I really, really like
That’s six, but really I could list, like, six hundred, so I did my best!
What's the silliest thing you have ever done?
I was once standing in Gray’s Papaya, this kind of dirty hot dog chain in New York, and the song ‘I will survive’ came on. I ended up doing an impromptu performance for everyone in the store, while my sister looked on in horror and embarrassment. That was pretty silly.

Ah, cool cool!
ReplyDeleteSo cool!
You sound like you know what you're doing! I honestly am still struggling with this all... the madness of blogging! Gosh!
Like, seriously, I try to edit my html ONCE and all these problems arise.
Frustrating!
Now worries, though... We'll figure it out together. :)
Love, Hannah
P.s. You commented asking me how I did this. What is the "this" you;re speaking of? Sorry, I'm a confused soul. :)
Oh the links to other places on the top of the page. That's So cool!! I still can't get my mind around it. Ya I am trying to figure out the layout of my blog too! It is all confusing you change the html and everything is wrong so I go back to how it was. I know you will get the hang of it too! It is quite fun I think I hope you think so too. To get this post right I had to post and re edit and repost it like 5 times! Its all trial and error for me at the moment!
ReplyDeleteBest Wishes,
Erika
Oh the pages!
ReplyDeleteI know! I was super happy about that one.
Ooh, I'm sorry, but I only know how to work page in a certain way (I don't know html yet). Your blog template doesn't work the same way mine does. I highly suggest making a new blog (not permanently!) just so you could practice your html and try out different types of layouts on it. The layout I chose was Minima.
With that layout, you can add gadgets. While you're on your blog page, look to the right of your page at the "customize" button. With Minima as your layout, (and a variety of other layouts as well) the first image you should see will be the skeletal of your blog.
I hope you're following me on this...
When you click the button "gadgets" just beneath the header editing, a new window should pop up. At the top of your newest window, it writes "pages". Click that, and there you are!
Unfortunately, the simple way doesn't work for your layout. I think.
I tried it out on my test blog, and it screwed up for me.
Maybe it'll work for you?
I'm horrible with explanations, so if you didn't understand what I'm saying, don't worry about it.
Love, Hannah
P.s. Good luck!
P.p.s. I suggest making a new blog just for yourself until you get the hang of things. I mean, I don't know about you, but I'm not gonna risk any malfunctions on my book blog!
I know that is a seriously good suggestion, because I am afraid to mess up my blog. I did follow you for the most part I understand the direction I need to go in and thanks so much for that!
ReplyDeleteHaha, seriously scared for that!
ReplyDeleteIf it wasn't for my test blog, (I use two e-mails) I;d be hopeless. :P
