Synopsis from back of book:
My world was, and is, me and death. It’s a lonely place to live, but I thought things were getting better. My name is Meridian Sozu, and I was wrong.
Review: I was expecting a lot from this book and I thought it would deliver, but it didn’t. Amber Kizer is a great author, but this book wasn’t the best it could have been. I did appreciate the symbolism she put into the book and the thought provoking ness of it. Throughout the book I kept thinking something was missing. I figured out at the end of the book what it was. It lacked relatable moments, to me. As soon as the book started going one way it would then be yanked into a new one. So as soon as the book started getting good it would switch directions leaving those moments which could have been amazing missing details and development. I loved the concept of the book though, and am glad I read it.
Meridian grows up feeling lonely, because she is in constant pain and her family never interacts with her. The only person in the family who truly talks to her is her little brother Sam who she absolutely loves and wants to protect. Things around Meridian are always dying and she has to clean up the carcasses of them when she wakes. Upon her sixteenth birthday though her parents all of a sudden are showing her all kinds of concern and open affection. When she gets home from school that day the world she thought she knew will be gone forever. She only knows she is going to her aunts and that her family will not be home if she tries to go back. At her aunts she finds out she is a Fenestra a half human, half angel being who helps the living cross over. She soon learns of the battle between good and evil and that some people aren’t who they seem to be. Ten a boy living with her aunt is very strange and mysterious and is always cryptic, as the book develops a growing romance blossoms between them.
Meridian is a book that I am hesitant to recommend. I feel really bad about it, but if you were dying for a fantastic read, I would not recommend it. If you are looking for a good book to read I would tell you to go ahead and read on with delight for you may have seen something I missed. If you are into good verse evil and a bit of adventure Meridian is the book for you. So go to the Library and check it out.
Amber Kizer is currently working on the sequel, which will be out in 2011. Look back for more details on it!

*Okay, I guess I didn't screw up after all... Just note this was intended for THE DARK DEVINE.
ReplyDeleteAw, you're so sweet!
And dude, you're doing pretty good yourself. :)
I know what you mean about the contest, though. I REALLY want to hold one for everyone, but I'm worried. Who would even bother entering? Will I even have five entrees? Ah, the madness!
You know, I was originally inspired by several of the "big-time" bloggers, to start a book blog. The ones with 500+ followers.
Now I know it isn't half as easy as it looks.
And hopefully I'll be able to get a new layout, too. :)
Oh and about your review! Hahaha I can't believe I forgot!
Thanks for this. I've been seeing this EVERYWHERE, and now it's now part of the top five on my TBR list.
Have a great night!
Love, Hannah
